LAST WORD is a video performance piece created in 2015 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The viewer and participant are invited to accept what is, and release what was, by reciting the Hawaiian prayer for reconciliation and acceptance— the Ho’oponopono. Its purpose is to express repentance, forgiveness, gratitude and love.
It was shown publicly for the first time at Burnt Canoe Studio in New Orleans, Louisiana during the exhibit “SLOW OPEN: The Process of Revealing Yourself” in the Fall of 2025.
Artists’ Statement:
LAST WORD takes the viewer through a journey of confrontation, confusion, resistance and fear explored through layers of sound that mimic the artists own transmutation of discomfort and disconnection. The music, inspired by the House genre, derived from Chicago’s underground club culture, takes the viewer through an auditory experience wherein a phrase is repeated and transformed by the beat underneath it. The sound was made in collaboration with New Orleans & New York City based artist and producer Pro$per Jones. The videography was made by the artist and filmed over a period of three months in the Summer of 2015.
In the fall of 2025 LAST WORD was shown publicly for the first time and alongside it, the performance piece SLOW OPEN. Read “Some things are meant to live in ephemera” to learn more about
